GOOD CREATION—Part 2
Yesterday, we heard the account of Creation up until Man and Woman were created. Let’s pick it up there…
But, God saved a special event. He brought into existence…man and woman.
26 God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature, So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
27 God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female. 28 God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”
29 Then God said, “I’ve given you every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth And every kind of fruit-bearing tree, given them to you for food. 30 To all animals and all birds, everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.” And there it was.
31 God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning— Day Six.
Genesis 1:26–31 (The Message)
God said Prosper! Reproduce! Take care of God’s creation! Be fruitful! Multiply!
It all started so wonderfully—with vibrant colors and teaming creation. With poetic harmony, and man created to care for it all. Grace was alive. No mistakes. Man and God and the rest of this marvelous creation was existing in perfect harmony!
Tragedy was around the corner. But now—enjoy this thought for a moment. Think about no pain, no division and no disunity. No bad. Bad cannot be fathomed. No fear.
Deep on the inside, we feel the potential for this sort of life. We fight for it. We want to find our way to responsible, sustainable, loving, unity. We want to appreciate the dynamic diversity that is around the world—on this planet. We love gracious order.
We love this account. We long for this experience. For life. The Divine Verve—the Endless Enthusiastic Energy of God came into existence by just a Word. A Word spoke. THE Word spoke and LIFE came.
John puts it beautifully—calling Jesus the pre-existent WORD that became flesh.
1 In the beginning the Word [JESUS] already existed. The Word [JESUS] was with God, and the Word [JESUS] was God. 2 He [JESUS] existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word [JESUS] gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
14 So the Word [JESUS] became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son [JESUS].
John 1:1–5, 14 (NLT)
Jesus is fulfilling the creation account by restoring his original intention at the creation of the world: put us back to right. Healing us. Restoring relationship with God man—reconciling the rifts between men.
Tomorrow, we will consider the dramatic and devastating shift in Genesis 3, but we already know that our hero Jesus had a plan and is the plan to make all right and to heal all that is broken.
